In the beginning of the 19th century  german mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss invented a way to describe the curvature of a surface only using local parameters. This way of working locally is called intrinsic.

In 3d we often meet the problem that maps are assigned using global properties (spherical, cylindical mapping etc.), instead of local properties (edgelength, normal angle etc.)

IntrinsicMap is a mapper that works completely locally, hence can be applied to any geomety given. You can buy it for  € 12.- at Click2sell.

It comes with a library of 25 shaders (right click to save here) setup with basic parameters for fast adjustment. Each shader works only with Intrinsic Maps setup on the model and has optimized parameter-sets.

two examples of shaders with different parametersets. one for painted wood furniture and one for heavy wrinkled skin.

example of a scratched-carpaint shader with brokenglass shader.

Additional to the Add-on you recieve samplefiles with customized shaders using the maps to blend between properties leaving your shadingtask to adjustment of a few parameters.

Ideal for texturing game assets, as the use of unique huge baked maps vanishes and is replaced by the use of characteristic small scratchmaps like this one:

The UV_map tiles the small texture over the surface just like scratches would. On the left side you define the convex areas, on the right side the concave areas. On the vertical v-axis the map goes along the surface, to vary the scratches on the model.

in the image aboe you see an example of a single texture used as material in scratchmap-projection.

using more complex shaders, like the ones in the library, adds even more detail to the surface.
